Local MP for Warrington South David Mowat has been awarded an honorary doctorate from a leading UK university.
BPP University is a privately-owned university which is based in London, but which has a study centre in Manchester. It offers students a range of degree programmes in areas including Accounting & Finance, Law, Management, Business and Human Resources.
Mr Mowat has been recognised for his services to public policy and to the North of England. He received the award at a ceremony at Manchester Town Hall last week.
David Mowat MP said:
“I’m extremely honoured that BPP have considered my contribution to be worthy of recognition. I spent 30 years in business fighting a mentality of “it’s important - therefore we have to do it in London” and it’s a battle that I have continued as a Member of Parliament.
“I truly believe that the 21st Century can, will and should be the century of the great towns and cities of the North. We have the skills, we have the talent and, with the investment from the Northern Powerhouse, we will have the infrastructure to make the North the key engine of the UK economy.”
Dr Sally-Ann Burnett, Director of Programmes at BPP University Business School, presented Mr Mowat with the award following his extensive work in business and contribution to his constituency, Warrington South.
She said: "Despite his distinguished career path David has humility, is very down to earth and has always looked to serve the wider community. It was an honour to give his oration at BPP University's Graduation ceremony and to also mark his contribution in the North West, in particular."
